The Houston Texans waived kicker Matt Ammendola on Monday and claimed defensive end Derek Barnett off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles in a corresponding move. Fairbairn has missed the last three games after being placed on Injured Reserve due to a strained right quadriceps he suffered in Week 9. Ammendola has kicked in his stead the last three games and went 3-for-6 on field-goal attempts while making all nine of his extra points. The 26-year-old missed both of his field goals in the three-point Week 12 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. If he clears waivers, he's likely to be returned to Houston's practice squad. Fairbairn must miss at least one more game before he's eligible to be activated from IR.
