Raiders Fire Offensive Coordinator Mick Lombardi

In addition to firing head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler, the Las Vegas Raiders fired offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi on Wednesday. Interim head coach Antonio Pierce announced quickly that the team is benching quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in favor of rookie Aidan O'Connell moving forward, starting in Week 9 against the New York Giants. Jimmy G has not been the answer and he's also missed two games due to injuries. The Raiders offense is averaging just 15.8 points per game, which is third-lowest in the NFL, ahead of just the Patriots and Giants. While the move to O'Connell won't guarantee big improvements, fantasy managers that have receiver Davante Adams can at least hope for more targets and production. In O'Connell's lone start in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers, Adams saw his second-most targets (13) of the year and produced eight catches for 75 yards. McDaniels, not Lombardi, had been calling the offensive plays for Vegas. Pass-game coordinator Scott Turner is a likely candidate to become the team's offensive play-caller now that both McDaniels and Lombardi are gone.
