Patrick Mahomes Could Be Week 1’s Top QB1 Play
one year ago

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes looks to ring in the new year on Thursday versus the Detroit Lions. The reigning MVP finds himself in a wonderful spot to start 2023 against a Lions defense that was gashed for more fantasy points per game to QBs (20.24) than any other in 2022. The 27-year-old could be missing superstar Travis Kelce (knee) for this one, however, putting a slight damper on an otherwise mouthwatering draw. Mahomes possesses overall QB1 upside every week, but with fellow superstars Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts in tougher matchups during the opening week, Mahomes might be the most appealing DFS play of the three. It's also worth noting that Mahomes owns a stellar 119.7 passer rating, 10.0 air yards per attempt, and 49:4 TD:INT in 16 career September outings, and an 11:1 TD:INT in five career Thursday contests.
