Panthers To Hire Dave Canales As Next Head Coach

The Carolina Panthers are closing in on a deal to hire Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales as their new head coach, according to sources. Canales was a first-time offensive coordinator in 2023, but his work with quarterback Baker Mayfield stood out and impressed the Panthers. He'll now be tasked with working with first overall pick Bryce Young, who struggled tremendously in his first season in the NFL. Under Canales, Mayfield had his best professional season, setting career-highs in yards (4,044), touchdowns (28) and interceptions (10). Before landing in Tampa, he was with the Seattle Seahawks, where he and new Panthers general manager Dan Morgan spent eight years together from 2010-2017.
