Marquez Valdes-Scantling Looks To Get Behind Defense In Week 1
one year ago

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling could draw some extra targets in the season opener versus the Detroit Lions if Travis Kelce (knee) is inactive or limited in any way. After attaining the eighth-highest receiving yards per reception (16.4) last year, however, the inconsistent 28-year-old wideout's role as KC's primary deep threat may be mostly unaffected regardless of Kelce's status. Valdes-Scantling should see a few looks on deep balls against a leaky Detroit defense that oozed the second-most receiving yards to WRs (3238), but his weekly prospects hinge upon his ability to come down with lower-percentage targets. This role leaves MVS as nothing more than a WR4/5 dart throw on Thursday, even in a game that could see plenty of points scored.
