Javonte Williams Leads Broncos Backfield On Thursday
one year ago

Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams returned from a one-game absence due to a quadriceps injury on Thursday night against the division-rival Kansas City Chiefs to lead the backfield with 10 carries for 52 yards (5.2 yards per carry). Williams wasn't targeted at all in the passing game in the 19-8 loss on the road. The 23-year-old also scored on a two-point conversion late in the fourth quarter, but he still has yet to find the end zone through five games in 2023. The main takeaway from the Week 6 game is that Williams looked healthy and explosive while seeing three more carries than impressive rookie Jaleel McLaughlin. Williams will continue to lose touches to McLaughlin, but he should remain the primary backfield option for the Broncos as long as he stays healthy. Denver's offense should be able to bounce back at home in Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers.
