Jaguars Fire Defensive Coordinator Mike Caldwell
11 months ago

The Jacksonville Jaguars fired defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell and several members of the coaching staff on Monday, according to a league source. The news comes a day after the Jaguars were eliminated from the playoffs with a 28-20 loss to the Tennessee Titans in the Week 18 regular season finale. The Jags D ranked 22nd in yards allowed per game (342.8) and 17th in points allowed per game (21.8). Caldwell had been the defensive coordinator for the last two seasons after stints with the Buccaneers, Jets, Cardinals and Eagles. In their last six games in which they won just once, the Jaguars ranked 27th in defensive EPA/play and success rate despite shutting out the Panthers in Week 17. They struggled against both the run and the pass and also didn't get much pressure against opposing quarterbacks, which is all a recipe for disaster.
