Desmond Ridder Benched, Taylor Heinicke To Start In Week 9

Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith announced on Wednesday that quarterback Taylor Heinicke will make the start over Desmond Ridder in Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings. Ridder was pulled in the Week 8 loss to the Tennessee Titans, so the writing was on the wall for this move. Heinicke went 12-for-21 for 175 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions in relief of Ridder last Sunday in the loss. The Falcons aren't looking beyond this week yet at the position, but if Heinicke impresses in a soft matchup against Minnesota, Atlanta could make the permanent move to him going forward. The 30-year-old will be on the QB2 picture immediately against the Vikings at home in Week 9 in superflex leagues. The move to Heinicke should also benefit pass-catchers Drake London and Kyle Pitts.
