Dave Canales To Interview For Panthers Head-Coach Job

Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales is scheduled to interview for the Carolina Panthers head-coaching job on Thursday, according to a source. Canales is coming off Tampa's 32-point playoff outing in the wild-card win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. Canales spent 10-plus years working as an assistant for the Seattle Seahawks before being hired as Tampa's offensive coordinator before the 2023 season. He helped quarterback Baker Mayfield to the best season of his career and would be asked to do the same with first-rounder Bryce Young, who looked lost in his first year in the NFL in Carolina. Tampa's offense ranked 20th in points per game (20.5), 23rd in total yards per game (313.0), 17th in passing yards per game (224.2) and last in rushing yards per game (88.8) during 17 regular-season games in 2023.
