Darious Williams A Cut Candidate

The Athletic's Jeff Howe writes that if the Jacksonville Jaguars need to make a big move to create salary cap space this offseason, they could release defensive back Darious Williams to save $11 million against the cap. Williams turns 31 next month and faded down the stretch last year. He's also entering the final year of his deal in 2024. Head coach Doug Pederson fired defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell and replaced him with Ryan Nielsen, so more change on the defensive front is likely. Williams isn't a bad player, but the Jaguars need to make sure they do everything possible to re-sign edge rusher Josh Allen while also getting their books right in preparation for quarterback Trevor Lawrence's extension. In his second year with the Jags in 2023, Williams had 53 tackles (44 solo), four interceptions (one for a TD), 19 passes defensed and a forced fumble in 17 starts.
