The Washington Commanders are approaching their search for a new head coach with openness and flexibility, but they are targeting Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as their top choice, according to sources. The Carolina Panthers are also hoping to land Johnson. Washington already hired San Francisco 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters as their new GM, and next on the agenda is finding a new head coach. They've requested permission to speak with seven candidates for the job, but they haven't been able to talk with any of them because they are in the wild-card round of the playoffs this weekend. Several teams have already requested interviews with Johnson, whose Lions teams is hosting the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday evening in the wild-card round.
