Commanders Sticking With Sam Howell As Starter... For Now
one year ago

Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said that the team is standing behind struggling quarterback Sam Howell for the rest of the season. "I'm committed to him and we'll see how things go, but I can't predict the future," Rivera said. The head coach did leave the door slightly open for a change to be made down the line, but Howell should be the starter for Week 8 in a rematch with the Philadelphia Eagles. The 23-year-old was a popular streamer at QB the last two weeks, but he hasn't delivered and should find himself back on the waiver wire in a lot of leagues. Howell has taken a league-high 40 sacks through seven games and will need to cut down on turnovers to turn things around. He did almost throw for 300 yards with one touchdown in the Week 4 overtime loss to the Eagles. If the Commanders make a change at any point, they'd be handing the offense over to veteran Jacoby Brissett.
