Chiefs Defense May Be Missing Key Pass Rusher Versus Lions
one year ago

The Kansas City Chiefs defense could take an enormous hit in Week 1 if four-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Chris Jones is out of action amid a contractual dispute. KC's pass rush generated an AFC-high 55 sacks a year ago and Jones was responsible for 15.5 of them, the most of any nose tackle. Squaring off against the elite Detroit Lions offensive line is no easy task to begin with. Hank Fraley's unit kept the pocket squeaky clean for Jared Goff last season, helping allow the second-fewest sacks (24) and interceptions (seven) in the NFL. Fantasy managers can hang their hats on Goff's inferior road splits from 2022, but the 28-year-old shows a 14:2 TD:INT and 110.1 passer rating in seven career Thursday starts. The Chiefs defense gets a slight bump up for playing at home, but consider them a lukewarm Week 1 play overall.
