Bears Want Historic Compensation For No. 1 Pick

If the Chicago Bears end up trading the No. 1 overall pick in this year's NFL draft, it's going to take a historic haul of draft picks and overall compensation, according to sources. In the words of another source, it would have to be "crazy." The Bears received the No. 1 overall pick in a blockbuster trade last offseason with the Carolina Panthers and are more likely than not to make the pick and land their new franchise quarterback. USC QB Caleb Williams is expected to be the top overall pick. If Chicago takes him, they would almost certainly trade Justin Fields to the highest bidder in what should be an active market. The Bears were happy with the improvement Fields made in 2023, but the rare opportunity to pick first overall could trump that. If Fields stays, he would almost certainly require a contract extension at some point soon. Chicago also has the No. 9 overall pick in 2024.
