Bailey Zappe Seeing First-Team Reps At Practice
12 months ago

New England Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe took multiple first-team QB repetitions at the portion of practice on Wednesday open to the media, with rookie Malik Cunningham behind him. ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss didn't see Mac Jones throw during the media-access period. The Patriots went with Jones again as their starter coming off their bye in the Week 12 loss to the New York Giants, but he only made it the first half before throwing a few more interceptions and being benched yet again in favor of Zappe. Zappe led the team on a touchdown drive but also threw a pick for the second straight game in the 10-7 loss. Head coach Bill Belichick probably isn't going to make any formal announcements on the QB situation anytime soon, but from Wednesday's practice observations, it appears as though Zappe may get his first start of 2023 this Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
