Antoine Winfield Jr. Expected To Receive Franchise Tag
9 months ago

Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr. is expected to receive the franchise tag by the deadline on Tuesday absent a new deal, but the two sides will continue talking over the coming days in hopes of reaching a long-term contract extension. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler writes that there's a feeling inside the league that Winfield would reset the safety market in a new deal, either with the Bucs or as a free agent. Winfield was exceptional in 2023, finishing with 122 tackles, six sacks, six forced fumbles and three interceptions. In addition to Winfield, Tampa has other big decisions coming with receiver Mike Evans, quarterback Baker Mayfield and linebacker Lavonte David all hitting free agency. Winfield, where he's playing in 2024, should be a top safety target in IDP fantasy drafts this fall.
