49ers Defensive Coordinator To Move From Booth To Sideline
one year ago

Amidst some defensive troubles during their three-game losing streak, San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks will move from the coach's booth upstairs to the sideline for the Week 10 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. The Niners also acquired defensive end Chase Young from the Washington Commanders before their bye last week. Through the first five games of the year, San Fran's defense was first in the NFL in points allowed per game (13.6), third in yards allowed (266.8 per game), fifth in defensive expected points added (33.98) and sixth in takeaways (nine). But over their last three games (all losses), they dropped to 24th (24), 30th (395.3), 31st (minus-5.5) and tied for 13th (four), respectively. They've struggled to stop the run, haven't consistently pressured or sacked the QB and have failed to tackle consistently.
